Golongan OKU Yang Dipinggirkan

The fate of the elderly with disabilities are not given aid

MIRI - Squatters and difficult to own land in Miri City are increasingly serious because of house prices are too expensive and not affordable for people of low and middle income.

A resident that has been more than 40 years settling on the Jalan Pujut @ 'Pujut Rail' Tanjung Batu complain to the PAS for not getting welfare assistance from the relevant agencies.

Going Bin Derman aged 70 have 6 children who consist of 3 daughters and 3 sons. His wife worked as an assistant chef at the Night Market Seberkas. He himself did not work because he lost his sight due to an accident.

Going had the misfortune when hit by nails in one of his eyes when returning from work at his home in 2010. He was bedridden for over a month at Miri General Hospital and was given free treatment as he was confirmed as the disabled due to the accident.

He has given OKU card by the charities but until now his did not get any aid from charities monthly. The reason of the charities is his child is able to bear his family.

His eldest daughter is married and has a child. His second son was working as a soldier in the Peninsular. 3 of his children are still studying at SMK Baru and also in SK Pujut.

According to his wife, their children who are still studying even then did not get aid like the other disciples. All of his three children go to school use school van and a monthly fee of RM135.00.

He added that only once the Sarawak Baitulmal contribute to his family but after that no more contributions received by his family.

Going is unable to work only depend on the fate of his wife and child, it certainly is not enough to cover their daily expenses and family.

They are expecting that the problems they face all this while get the attention from the authorities and parties concerned. Condition of their homes also dilapidated and need to be repaired because they cannot afford to repair their homes.

We urge the charities and the Sarawak Baitulmal can provide a monthly aid to Going Derman because he deserve receive a monthly aid because he was unable to work and can be categorized as urban poor.

The parties concerned can come to see the situation and the plight of Going after he was unable to bear his family. Cooperation with relevant parties to resolve the problem of Going Derman and his family is highly appreciated.
